Yearbook Organisation

yearbook ladder (click to enlarge)Just a quick overview about the book, signatures and deadlines and such. Pages are printed 16 pages at a time - a set of 16 pages is called a signature. Our book usually contains 15 signatures (240 page book). The 16 pages are counted back and front, so what really happens is that 8 page sheets are printed, back and front. Each side of the signature is called a multiple (8 pages).

yearbook ladderWhen you're looking at a Yearbook ladder, it'll be sectioned off into signatures, showing 16 pages, 7 double page spreads and one page on the beginning and the end. The two multiples present in each signature will be differentiated using colour.

When you want to use one of the three different options of page colouring - process (or full) colour, spot (one single colour palette plus black & white) colour, or black & white, the option applies to one multiple (which makes sense, because pages in a multiple are printed together).

So when making decisions about where you want to use what kind of colour, keep in mind that whatever option you choose, it applies to an entire multiple - so use it wisely. Often, this means that sections in the Yearbook need to be made to end corresponding to the ending of a multiple or signature.
